So well done. So very well done (still crying). Despite my very tight budget, you made it possible for me to afford to support your work, thank you. There really are no words…

I don’t get that emotional over things that I watch. My family calls me the ice maiden because I almost never cry at sad movies. However, I followed your instructions and at the end I felt tears welling up.

    Thank you for creating this.

I watched the video before reading the blog. I cried for a bit. I read the blog. Started crying again. It’s so beautiful and harrowing and tragic. I can’t stop crying. I can’t stop thinking about what it means to me. Amazing, inspiring. Every interaction I’ve had with you I’ve been reduced to a blathering fangirl–but you are my hero.

I was moved and impressed by everything in and about this project.  You recorded a GOOD Nirvana cover, it sounds like what I’ve liked about you all these 8 years or so.  The video looks great.  Blake in the woods was inspiring and spooky, there is a very similar lone angel headstone in the woods near my rural hometown that has inspired many chilling tales.  I have high hopes for you and the new band.  Love.

  5. Penny Dreadful

really great video, hon. I wouldn’t even know where to begin covering that song, the lyrics are so iconic they could be easy to choke on. But this is amazing. xx

  6. Becca BiBi Sklar

That video gave me dead chills. Especially at the end when you look her square in the eyes and she gets in the care. Utterly amazing and I’ll spread it around.

Very powerful video and a great cover!  I normally don’t like video’s/movies etc. that portray rape because how can one really portray the brutality, the utter violence of such an offense…. but this was… perfect, tasteful in a strange sense of the word.  The look you had when you pulled over was… well I’m not sure exactly what it was but it was intense….  Thank you for creating this!  I think there are lot of women/female bodied people out there that could find some healing in this… I know I did.

Your art continues to inspire me.

Were you not into the band’s music at the time or did you just not know their individual names?  I am a year or two older than you, I believe, and I couldn’t escape Kurt.  Everyone around me was obsessed.  Just wondering what your “musical” environment was like during that time.

WOW. no, i’d never seen it. i just watched and the similarities are CREEPY. thank you for sending the link….

It’s really weird … I think links in the mutual archetypal subconsciousness help create these images.  Our ancient fight and flight instincts share similar genetic messages.  Anyhoo … your cover of Polly has been in my head for the last couple of days.  Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.

The exact quote from the liner notes is:

“Last year, a girl was raped by two wastes of sperm and eggs while they sang the lyrics to our song ‘Polly.’  I have a hard time carrying on knowing there are plankton like that in our audience.  Sorry to be so anally PC but that is the way I feel.”

Also, thank you for everything you do. You’re like a big, strong lighthouse that stands fast against the darkness and the waves for so many people.  Thanks for your bravery, and for never turning that beam off.

  9. Tilou Pouline

I can’t actually purchase the track due to the fact that paypal does not accept Lebanon as a country to purchase :-/

  10. Disce Pati

Rather than watch the video or listen to the cover right now (my shields are too far down today), I’ve just read all the comments and that, in itself, has been devastating and enlightening.
I want to thank you, commenters, for all you share. Your hearts and souls are gifts.

This reminds me of a night at one of your shows.

I was there with a friend – it was the midnight show in London. I loved it. But a guy was following us, and I was scared, and he wouldn’t leave us alone. He just gave you that… feeling, you know? The feeling that if you’re not careful, the night is going to go very badly. It was 3am, and we tried to escape while he was distracted talking to Neil, but he noticed and he followed us.

Nothing happened, but I was so scared. You and Neil had been so lovely, and I nearly went back and asked you for help. But I didn’t. And my friend kept it together while I was having an almost full-on panic attack.

Anyway, the video reminded me of that. It’s a great video. Love and stuff.

Our lives are at such different paces.  It seems like yesterday you were stranded in San Francisco without a passport, but when I think about it, since then you’ve toured two continents, performed in 5 countries and met at least three heroes with jaw-dropping, best-day-ever results.

Meanwhile, I’ve plodded along with my plan B life, but I’m grateful I can spectate as amazing things continue to happen to you.  No, that’s not right — as you continue to make amazing things happen.

Because honestly if I was stranded without my passport I would thrash myself mentally so hard I would get a migraine and have to go back to bed.  You do the mental thrashing, I think, for maybe 12 minutes, but then you take charge and journey on and make things click into place, and meanwhile do a ninja gig, visit a sock store, get some yoga in and manage to write the treatment for a hauntingly perfect and guttingly emotional video.

This is why you are so inspiring.  I have tried to tell you this in person, but it came out sounding like generic fancrap that makes your eyes glaze over.  It’s not that you’re blessed with a life free of emotional obstacles and mood swings.  It’s that they don’t drive you, you drive them — and wring every ounce of creative energy possible out of them, and somehow this doesn’t leave you withered and dry and empty.

At least not for long.  At least not that you share with us. :)

It’s funny, I put new strings on my guitar and their sound immediately screamed ‘Play Polly!’ to me. I played it and it sounded so true. It’s been a couple of weeks, but still, it seems Polly is the only song they want to sing.

  14. Elyse.

amazing video and cover, brought chills to my spine!
just though I would mention, Jillian looks like Natalie Bassingthwaite (lead singer of the Rogue Traders)
thankyou for another amazing song! :) x
