Kim Deal ♥️🎉♥️
EEEEEEEE!
Ohhh man. I owe you patron meet-up and show photos AND I’m about to release the Noor Tagouri / Rubin conversation but I have to give this its own post because it’s so awesome…so greetings from the tarmac of Wellington airport.
New Zealand really is that small, people. Look who I ran into at Wellington airport: IT’S KIM DEAL of The Breeders (and Pixies) and I was so excited my chair literally fell over when I went to hug her.
I had many closets of my musical songwriting brain-house formatted by the songs and sounds of Pixies and The Breeders as a teenager, so this was goddamn huge for me.
We knew they were in town; The Breeders opened up for the Foo Fighters in Wellington last night and hit stage right as I started my set at Old St. Paul’s, about 600 meters away. We could literally hear “Last Splash” from our dressing room. There were Dave Grohl jokes scattered throughout my church show, as we listened to the Foo Rumble under my sad piano New Zealand Survival Songs. 😀
Kim and I had never met before but know about each other and we got to have a beautiful sister-down about Trump, Ohio, Woodstock, America, Music, Life, World.
And it feels like this year has been a season of gratitude/acknowledgement-opportunity.
First Robert Smith, now this. I got to tell her how much respect I have for her as a musician and songwriter…but more importantly, I have so much respect for being a woman of integrity in the music industry. She’s just so real and solid and cool and beautiful. All respect.
Getting on a plane to Sydney. See you soon, Australia!! Sydney on Wednesday at City Recital Hall and Melbourne on Friday at Hamer Hall. It’s gonna be a while before I’m back with The Dresden Dolls. Come catch up with me and gimme a hug before I have to go face America in election season.
Xxxx. A
