crowd-funding? yes, it actually fucking works. really well.
holy shit, my friends.
not only did we reach the goal of $3,300 that we set on tristan’s kickstarter, we’re currently made MORE THAN DOUBLE.
i’m so deleriously impressed, tristan is over the moon, and it feels like the world is bursting open with possibility.
to everyone who gave, THANK YOU. we’re currently at over $7,000 (though this fancy widget will tell you exactly how much over.) FEAST UPON IT:
to everyone who gave: you’ve basically all just become santa claus to an insanely talented young musician.
today tristan came over & we worked on our piano duet and he practiced his songs in my bedroom while i caught up on email in the kitchen.
it felt like heaven to listen to him banging in there. the kid is SICK.
here’s a little video i posted to twitter….(yes my place is a fucking clutter kingdom. do not send cleaners.)
we hit the studio tomorrow at 1pm and are bringing with us some friends and family and folks who donate $100 or more and…you? (we have a few extra spaces so if you’re in cambridge/boston and can 100% go to a 7PMish event, HERE is some more info on how)
after we finished, we met up with his parents, who are absolutely incredible people well-versed in theater and art – for god’s sake his mother studied BUTOH WITH KAZUO ONO, the founder – and his dad was involved with Bread & Puppet, my old political theater puppet ninja heros. we all headed to “Alice Vs Wonderland”, the mainstage theater piece at the ART – a crazy mash-up of the original story and ROCK ROCK ROCK. then we all went out to eat with the director (& hungarian filmmaker) Janos Szasz, who i’m absolutely in art-love with. more on him later, i hope.
we talked about, well, everything….and as i sat talking with tristan and his father, watching janos laughing and toasting with tristan’s mother about art, difficulty and life….
i looked around the table at us and i thought – this is why i do this. any of this. this kind of joy. a surrogate art-family, if only for a meal.
may there be thousands more.
and may you find yours tonight
