….
AUCKLANDERS…I MADE IT EASY…TAKE THE PASSENGER FERRY!!!
MORRA HALL IS RIGHT NEAR TO THE FERRY LANDING in waiheke if you’re coming from the CBD. it’s about a 10-15 minute walk from the matiatia ferry to morra hall, and then another 5 minute walk into downtown oneroa. i picked this hall (and am doing the two shows there) specifically so you can get on the ferry and eat in town either before or after the show. the 8:30pm show will be over by about 10:30pm so you’ll easily be able to get to one of the last ferries, which leave at 11pm and 12:30 back to the mainland!!! here’s the ferry schedule: https://www.fullers.co.nz/timetables-and-fares/?from=AUCK&to=WAIH
ALSO….
if you want dinner spot recommendations:
go to
-cafe fenice for pizza/italian
-red crab for thai
-ajadz for indian
-sol cafe for cute local everything-food and very nice vibe
if you really wanna treat yourself, book in an early dinner at mudbrick vineyard, right outside of town. you can get there on foot or bike from the ferry, or take a cab. it’s goddamn stunning and the food & sunset views are to die for.
tell them amanda sent you…..
……
HERE ARE THE AMAZING OPENERS!!!!!:
my new pal CONSTANCE MARAJ, self-proclaimed “Living work of art, Celtic Maori Witch, Drag Queen, Artist, Conceptualist, 90’s child, 80’s baby….”
and my other pal PRINCESS CHELSEA, whose music i’ve loved for many years.
AND to whet your appetite, here are some shots of the venues…..
i took these photos of palm beach hall a few days ago. ash was attending a BIRTHDAY PARTY there 🙂
here’s morra hall….EEEEEEE……!!!!!
and here’s tiny little omiha hall in rocky bay….
.,…………….
meanwhile…..life? well.
greetings from the new zealand “winter school holidays” as they call them….we are still in queenstown where the wind whips and it’s freezing, but, dude, i’m killing it at motherhood because, well, ash is having the time of his goddamn life.
HE LOVES THE SNOW SO MUCH AND CNNOT STOP EATING IT. and the mountains….my god…..you’ve never seen shit like this. maybe you HAVE….but, i mean…i certainly hadn’t.
THANK YOU ALL for all the suggestions two posts ago!!!! i’ve been knocking things off one by one…..we went to arrowtown yesterday (as suggested by many of you) and he bought a tuatara puppet and named them koro, after our drag queen friend….see above.
here’s ash in arrowtown….with a maori picture dictionary book he just coerced me into buying for him….he also wanted some ugg boots with ribbons on them and i did not say no.
i also took him for his very first kiddie skiiing lesson. holy shit….he loved it. LOVED IT.
i’m overwhlemed, however, with all the back-and-forth about whether or not – and when – to go back to the states. i’m in a mental free-spin-out.
so….i was excited to hit the slopes yesterday for the first time since i was 15, but having rented all the gear (boots, skis, a jacket, gloves, snow pants, the works….), i was fielding texts from my houseguest-sitter back on waiheke about the power not working and i was dealing with conversations with neil about what to do with our life and i started getting hot in my coat and snowsuit and i saw the massive crowds of people at the chairlift and literally did a 180. i just gave up.
i left ash with his kiddie ski group, turned around, explained to the people at the ski gear rental that i was backing out, graciously accepted their refund, and went to the cardrona base ski slope cafe to try to think for fifty minutes by goddamn myself.
sometimes you just gotta bail. sometimes you just gotta go to the ski slope bathroom and have a little cry. sometimes you just gotta accept how incredibly privileged your problems are as you order a coffee on a ski slope and deal with the problems on your godamn iphone.
heading home….? it’s looking more likely, but the delta variant is fucking it up. i don’t know, guys. i just don’t know. i am still not sure what’s happening with my movements on any given day, and i am practicing my zens, and trying to give this child a life that appears and feels “normal”. it’s normal to him.
he’s happy. so everything is fine. i also got my period yesterday, and i’m peri-menopausal, that probably didn’t help. we’ll see.
here’s ash, as happy as i think i’ve ever seen him….
more soon.
i love you all.
hang in there for me
