A poem for Meow and a fun-space question for my Boston people
Hello my loves
Just got on the choo choo
So tied so happy
Poem first.
Meow put me to bed last night after the NYC show (which was fucking incredible – so so much to share but it’s going to take a hot minute, and it looks like the $5+ patrons are in for multiple treats with the recording of the Northampton show and hopefully this whole filmed night coming your way….)…the crew went out to party and we are old ladies and turned in early, and we stayed at the home of some patrons not too too far from the venue.
I woke up before dawn, got on the train back to be a town, gazed at this this selfie Meow texted of us in a cuddle and felt moved to write some verse.
……
There is splinter and tweezer
First one; then the other
Rotate masks for the oxygen,
Dish gloves of rubber
Scalding kettle and oven mitt
Bedsheet and cover
Tourniquet where’s there’s rip
And we
Mother each other.
…..
I am feeling the rips in the fabric all over the place as I explore what it means to try to heal; where, how, with whom, what works, what doesn’t. What’s sew-able. What’s reperable. Where safety lies. What music creates in its loudnesses and silences. Clearly, music is both the lifeboat we row in and the lighthouse towards which we row. Always nice to have co-rowers and collaborators as we tire and cannot row 24/7.
I held so many of you in my arms last night.
Photos galore and footage is / are coming.
…..
MEANWHILE – I have a fun question for my BOSTON PEOPLE !!!
I posted this to socials as well:
BOSTON AREA – wondering who is here from threads in general (say hi? I’ve moved back here!!) and also with a question: what are best current small-midsize music-bar venues in town with cosy-homey/hang/lounge vibe? Like 100-300 capacity, extra extra bonus if there’s a playable grand piano. Asking for a friend 🥳🎹♥️
WHY????
That I can tell YOU all…I’m looking for a great regular venue to do some fun and casual little residency shows, and I’d like to find a new home for me and Lance to put on some “Party Around a Piano” shows so we can all hang out and sing and cry like we used to do in Woodstock.
A place for the COMMUNITY to hang out together … so: not a loud local bar where there’s tons of randoms. Not a seated formal place. Not an empty hall with no vibe.
The closest thing we can find to renting a living room with a lot of chairs and a piano. Who’s got ideas?
In Cambridge:
There’s the Lizard Lounge – that’d be super poetic as it’s where the dolls got our start – but there’s sadly no piano. And before you ask: yes, we could rent a keyboard but fuck that it’s not the same.
There’s the Sinclair but no piano (though we could rent one for a big gig) it’s kinda too big. There’s Passim but it’s a little too small and serious. And no piano.
Somerville…
Has the Crystal Ballroom but it’s a little big and no piano. Lilypad has a piano but I wonder about the hang.
in Actual Boston…
Dani’s Queer Bar is open but wouldn’t fit this show well – I went the other day. I found a little bar with a piano in the basement called Hobgloblin that might work…
There’s the jazz clubs, but they’re a little stuffy. There’s Club Café which is super gay yay but also very loud and Public. Jaques Cabaret (the drag bar) is lovely but again – no piano.
OKAY: send ideas and feedback.
Where do YOU wanna go?
We can get creative here people.
