Ig Nobel last night, German news, and an ask for Sadada.
Hello loves
Early morning coffee post.
The Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony last night was a HOOT. Lance and I both agreed that we need more academic nerd joy in our lives. The MIT press folks with whom that I’ve been discussing a new project were there and I’m getting more excited about my new writing projects and memoirs, and the fires inside me are churning. It’s nice to be back at work and back at home. I accidentally made it into the news in Germant this morning, standing behind some German scientists who were doing research about worms getting drunk. 🙂
You can read all about the Ig and the winners here:
My Murphy’s Law speech was cut short but it was … apt!!

On another topic this morning ….
The header photo you see is by Anthony Mulcahy – from the stream on Tuesday – and that’s my friend Sadada.
She goes by Sister Sadada, and my sister she is.
We share a birthday, and we share a long history together. The wild coincidences of life: I reconnected with Sadada because I randomly ran into @lamarodofficial – a Buddhist minister and QUEEN – at Ash’s old school in Woodstock. Rod had worked with Sadada…and one thing led to another and numbers got traded. I’ve found my old school friend.
Sadada and I went to middle school AND high school together, and in 7th grade, I was the campaign manager for her doomed run for student council president. It’s a long story, but the main upshot is that I got sent to the principals office for my profane (but creative!!) poster campaign and Sadada realized she didn’t want to be the leader of a bunch of 7th graders. WE GROW. And yet, we stay the same. 😇
We have been catching up lately on all we have survived and learned. It’s…a lot, isn’t it.
Sadada and I shot off in different directions after school, but in her world, she has also become a power voice. A mirror sister to my weird work in rock, she has been working on gathering her threads and roots together to sing a bigger story into existence.
She graced us with her incredible voice at my livestream concert for patrons only on Tuesday, she sang into our hearts, and now I’m gonna encourage you all, if you can, to give her a follow and also donate to a small crowdfund she’s running right now for a project to head to Ireland to dig deeper into her work. She’s at about $2k of a $5k goal – and some of my webchat patrons yesterday already donated (thank you) and…so did I.
If nothing else – give her a follow. Her work is beautiful. From her site: “i am a student of embodied liberatory practices: i live in my body and vacation in my mind. i am black nipmuc of irish decent.“
The Nipmuc, for those of you not from Massachusetts, are the original custodians of this land I’m walking on this morning. After all I learned in Aotearoa about my relationship with land, I don’t think running into Sadada was a goddamn accident. Nuh uh.
Here’s the link to help her out.
And thank you…from me and from her.
